Academy is now closed, but it will reopen 8th September 2017 for a new term!

The Worcester Goalkeeper Academy reopens it doors for a new term of dates from September…

New Autumn / Winter Term Dates
A new Goalkeeping term will start from the 8th September 2017. It will run for the following 14 weeks from 7:15pm to 8:45pm (1.5 hours):

  • Week 1 : Friday 8th September 2017
  • Week 2 : Friday 15th September 2017
  • Week 3 : Friday 22nd September 2017
  • Week 4 : Friday 29th September 2017
  • Week 5 : Friday 6th October 2017
  • Week 6 : Friday 13th October 2017
  • Week 7 : Friday 20th October 2017
  • Half Term
  • Week 8 : Friday 3rd November 2017
  • Week 9 : Friday 10th November 2017
  • Week 10 : Friday 17th November 2017
  • Week 11 : Friday 24th November 2017
  • Week 12 : Friday 1st December 2017
  • Week 13 : Friday 8th December 2017
  • Week 14 : Friday 15th December 2017

As this is a not for profit Academy, we rely solely on funding. To assist with this funding, Goalkeepers shall be expected to pay for their coaching in the form of a membership fee:

  • £6 per session; or
  • Pay for a block of 7 sessions for £40; or
  • Pay for a block of all 14 sessions for £70

New Worcester Goalkeeper Academy summer training dates 

The Worcester Goalkeeper Academy reopens it doors for new Summer Training sessions.

These dates are for the following 3 weeks from 7:15pm to 8:15pm (1 hour):

  • Week 1 : Tuesday 27th June 2017
  • Week 2 : Tuesday 4th July 2017
  • Week 3 : Tuesday 11th July 2017

As this is a not for profit Academy, we rely solely on funding. To assist with this funding, Goalkeepers shall be expected to pay for their coaching in the form of a membership fee:

  • £4 per session; or
  • Pay for all 3 sessions for £10

Worcester Goalkeeper Academy Awards 2017

After 2 terms of 28 weeks in total we have seen over 45 keepers come through our doors, all of which we have seen improve and develop as keepers. So tonight after the final session of the season we had our annual awards. All received the recognition they deserved, with afurther 6 special awards given to Star and Most Improved keepers for each category at the Academy.

The Most Improved Award went to the following keepers:

  • Noah Sayani
  • Matt Hatton 
  • Kyle Broderick

The Star Keeper Award is given to keepers with not just, talent, but with a willingness to learn and improve, as well as complete dedication. This season the award went to the following keeper:

  • Zak Watkins 
  • James Jaffrey 
  • Leia Carter

A big congratulations to all our winners and a big thank you too for all the keepers for thei efforts.

A big thank you too to our coaching staff this term, who have supported this Academy, offering their time for free and above all, for developing these keepers into the players they are. 

Worcester Goalkeeper Academy opens its doors to Senior Team Goalkeepers

We are  running some sessions now on the following evenings for Senior Team Goalkeepers:

  • 24th February 2017 
  • 10th March 2017 
  • 24th March 2017 
  • 28th April 2017 
  • 12th May 2017

It is a 1.5 hour session and start time will be 7:15 pm. Cost is £6 per session, payable on the night.

So after a long break, the Worcester Goalkeeper Academy is back and raring to go!

Last year was incredibly successful, with 42 keepers coming through our doors and now 10 coaches on our books (including level 2 qualified / developing and a returning coach with a lot of football club and Academy experience)!

And we are back again, for more success I’m sure!

The Worcester Goalkeeper Academy is back on this Friday 27th January 2017 at 7:15pm, with a new programme of coaching identified for the coming 14 weeks of coaching (don’t forget the 2 week gap for Easter – all dates are on the website).

… And the coaches have all responded too, meaning I can confirm we have a large amount of coverage for every week – Your keepers will be in good hands!

Worcester Goalkeeper Academy reopens this Friday 2nd September 2016

Our goal is to develop Goalkeepers and Goalkeeping standards through specialist Goalkeeper coaching that is committed to the continual improvement of Goalkeeper specific skills and abilities, using a large pool of qualified coaches, resources, knowledge and experience.
It is the centre for the development of all keepers, of all ages and abilities, as it has a number of coaches available to develop any keeper. There are no restrictions, as all keepers who come to us have the ability to develop. Come and check us out…

The Worcester Goalkeeper Academy goes from strength to strength. 

What a great night last Friday…

Since we achieved our accreditation with the FA, we have gone from strength to strength, not only attracting more keepers every week, but also more coaches too.

We had our awards after the final session of the season, with 21 of the keepers on our books now. They all received a medal for their efforts, with congratulations and applause for all from coaches, parents and the other keepers. 

Not forgetting those that were unable to attend, congratulations to those keepers too!

We had 4 additional awards, 2 each in the older and younger category. Congratulations to:

  • Jodie Whiteman – Star Keeper
  • William Hemming – Star Keeper
  • Callum Weaver – Most Improved
  • Olivia Rooke – Most Improved

    So that brings the Academy to a close this season, however we will reopen again on the 2nd September 2016!

    Although if you can’t wait that long…

    If you want some more goalkeeper training over the Summer, the Worcester Goalkeeper Academy coaches will be putting on Goalkeeper specific sessions that your keepers can attend at the WCT Raiders Football Academy on the 3G at the KGV (King George V Community Centre), Ash Avenue, Worcester WR4 9TL. The dates for these sessions will be:

    • 21st May 2016
    • 18th June 2016
    • 23rd July 2016
    • 20th August 2016

    The Football Academy there is on from 10:30 am to 11:30 am and they charge £2 for the hour. The keepers are welcome on other Saturdays if they want to come and get involved in the outfield training sessions too, it may help on other skills, as footwork and understanding the outfield play are also useful to a goalkeeper.

    Worcester Goalkeeper Academy receives Accreditation from the Worcestershire FA

    Recognition of our abilities was one of our key goals, so we are extremely proud to announce, that the Worcester Goalkeeper Academy has received Accreditation for its coaching from the Worcester FA.

    A massive thank you must go to all the coaches at the Academy and also those of the past, who have helped build it into a centre of excellence for Goalkeepers and Goalkeeper Coaches.

    Former Worcester Goalkeeper Academy Coach publishes a new book – A must-read for Goalkeepers and Coaches!

    Former Worcester Goalkeeper Coach, Andy Elleray has just had a new book published that is well worth a read by Goalkeepers and Coaches…

    Scientific Approaches to Goalkeeping in Football by Andy Elleray


    After gaining his MSc in Sports Coaching at the University of Worcester (where he coached at the Academy),  Andy has gone on to become a UEFA qualified coach, to become a highly accredited performance analyst through ISPAS. Andy brings an alternative and evidence based scientific approach to goalkeeping. Looking at the position from various different angles providing support systems, performance measures and new coaching theories. He has provided specific performance analysis and coach support at Academy level, previously at Liverpool and more recently at Chelsea.

    His book offers a fresh and innovative approach to goalkeeping in football. With a particular emphasis on the development of young goalkeepers, it sheds light on training, player development, match performances, and player analysis.

    Utilising his own experiences Andy shows the reader various approaches, systems and exercises that will enable goalkeepers to train effectively and appropriately to bring out the very best in them. Practice and theory are merged together to create a highly practical book with its roots in the latest research and thinking.

    The book looks at the following:

    • Combat issues such as anxiety and nerves by boosting confidence and concentration
    • Delve into cutting edge video and performance analysis systems and implementations
    • Utilise alternative games-based training methods to bring out the best in goalkeepers
